In today’s competitive economic environment,
it is imperative to maximize the efficiencies of every manufacturing
process. A broad range of applications and materials challenge
even the best process engineers to reduce scrap rates and improve
equipment utilization in plastic injection molding operations.
Moldflow Plastics Xpert® (MPX®) is an expert system
for process setup and optimization, monitoring and statistical
process control. Think of it as a molder’s toolbox to
address the need for continuous process improvement and increased
operational efficiency.
MPX provides an intuitive, systematic method to achieve these
goals through shop floor applications specifically designed
for a touchscreen industrial computer installed at the injection
molding machine. MPX interfaces with over 30 of the leading
machine controllers, providing bidirectional communication for
monitoring and controlling the process.
Process Setup allows users to automate the
setup of the injection molding process through a series of velocity-
and pressure-phase setup routines designed to fix molded part
defects systematically.
Process Optimization allows users to run an
automated design-of-experiments (DOE) to determine a robust
processing window, taking into account the normal process variation
of the injection molding machine and tooling.
Process Control maintains the optimized process
determined with Process Optimization, monitoring the process
and correcting any process drift or out-of-control variations
using statistical techniques.
